Rockin’ With Ron

From genuine Detroit Rock to soulful Blues, from solid Country tunes to heartfelt Christian songs, I’ve got a whole lot of music inside me that’s just waiting to get out — and no matter what I’m playing, I always give it my all.

Thanks for visiting my site and listening to some of my songs. I hope you find something you like.

I’m a singer, guitarist, drummer, songwriter, arranger, and producer with a catalog of more than 150 original songs.

For many years, I’ve been the drummer in the Cadillac Kidz, a nearly famous Detroit rock band that has been the opening act for many well-known touring bands, including Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Alice Cooper, J. Geils Band, Bon Jovi, and others. I am currently working on a studio project with Cadillac Kidz as well as a new solo album

Growing up in Detroit in the early 60s, I listened to Motown on the radio. Everybody did. And I still love Motown to this day. But things really changed for me (and many others) on Feb.9, 1964, when The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. I went from just listening to music to becoming obsessed with playing it. I wanted to be like The Beatles! It took two years to convince my mom and dad to buy me a drum set.

My Music

Often, a song becomes a hit because of the hook — the part that gets stuck in your brain, and you can’t stop humming it.

I like hooks as much as anybody and recognize that they can hit you even harder when the lyrics are meaningful. When they speak to an experience or an emotion, you can relate to. That’s what I’m going for in all my music: Memorable tunes, words that resonate, and performances that stay with you even after the song, the record, or the gig is over.

MUSICIAN AND SONGWRITER

My first exposure to live music was listening to my Aunt Corrine play guitar and sing on my family’s annual vacations in Georgia. I joined a band at age 12, playing with neighborhood kids, and I’ve never looked back. My mentor gave me a guitar for my 16th birthday, and I wrote my first song that fall. I continued to write and perform for many years, but there was no outlet for my originals in the bar bands I played with until one fateful day in 1979.

When I joined the Cadillac Kidz that year, I wasn’t that into the punk music that inspired the band. They did originals, though, and I liked that! And, as we became better writers and musicians, we evolved — keeping our edge while creating a new, bold, more accessible sound. As a result, I was able to contribute to our original song list and our shared goal of hittin’ the big time.
